I liked this book a lot, but the events towards the end just didn't make sense to me. It was like the Wizard of Oz, but it didn't seem to fit in this book. I could have done without it. So from 4 to 3 stars due to that. Otherwise it was pretty good.

I really liked this book when I started it. But it seemed to meander rather than going anywhere storywise. And although I didn't mind the music references at first, I eventually started skimming passages with them. There were too many for an obscure topic. I would have probably enjoyed the book if I understood more of the references.

I only made it about 10% into this book. The characters were wooden. The scenes were trite. The book is written in third person omniscient. I don't know what is historical about this other than the characters existed. I couldn't read anymore.

I really enjoyed this book at the beginning, but it fell apart for me at the end. It seemed disjointed and the "fate" and "faith" shoved down my throat felt false. I did like that the characters didn't really buy either concept, at least at first.
